N2 - Social geography: a new paradigm ?The purpose of the debate is an analysis of the French « social geography ». Is it a new research field or actually a new procedure ? The aim of the « social geographers » is to escape academicism and to keep a commitment in the construction of society, but what is the role of locational analysis in the investigation of social relations ? Local studies have seemed to take an important place in the research field up to now, but social geography should be able to enlarge its approach to a broader view of the inequalities on an international level as well as to the conditions of development of the social relations on a territorial basis.
N2 - Le thème du débat est l'analyse de la production de la géographie sociale française. Est-ce un nouveau champ de recherche ou une nouvelle approche méthodologique ? Le but des « géographes sociaux » est d'échapper à l'académisme et de garder prise sur la construction de la société; mais quel est le rôle de l'analyse des localisations dans l'étude des relations sociales ? Les études locales semblent avoir pris une grande importance dans le champ de recherche jusqu'à maintenant, mais la géographie sociale doit être capable d'élargir son angle de vue à l'étude globale des inégalités au niveau international, aussi bien qu'aux conditions de développement des relations sociales sur une base territoriale.
