    At the present period it is not desirable to multiply appeals to the charitable feelings of the community : but a painful circumstance, connected with the war in which we are involved, has imposed on us an obligation, which, as Christians and Americans, we should be anxious to discharge. It is generally known, that a number of the Bibles bearing the stamp of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and designed for charitable distribution in the neighbouring British provinces, were taken by an American privateer and sold at public auction
