  • Description:
Abstract
This paper describes concepts behind the IQFEM which is an experimental knowledge based system for algorithm selection in nonlinear finite element analysis. Problems demanding human expertise in the FEM field are identified. The need to emulate this expertise by means of an appropriate expert system is emphasized. Knowledge base organization and symbolic inference principles, as employed in the system, are reviewed. The IQFEM has been developed in PASCAL using the 16‐bit personal computer. The paper describes the work in progress and no definite conclusions are stated.
