These photographs were taken during my visits to the West Bank and Gaza in 2003 and 2004. In them I portray moments in the daily life of a population struggling to get by under difficult conditions. Through images of children with their families, alone, or at play, I ask: What future might be in store for a people whose youth are growing up in the midst of such brutal contradictions? I wanted to explore the paradoxes of how children live—how they survive, love, care for each other, and dream—in the face of daily danger.
