Description:
As a pediatrician with training and interest in school health, I was pleased that the Academy's policy statement on the promotion of breast-feeding1 emphasizes the inclusion of breast-feeding facts in school health curricula. I recently surveyed 571 girls from high school health classes to determine their attitude toward and knowledge of breast-feeding. I used a 20-item "forced choice" questionnaire developed by Berger and Winter.2 Each "pro" response to an attitude item was scored "1 point."
