<p> During seven years of field tests in sweetcorn, multiple sprayings of methomyl and chlorpyrifos at two-dy intervals from initiation of silking to harvest provided effective control of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), at the recommended rate of 0.6 kg ai/ha. The pyrethroid insecticides fenvalerate, permethrin, and cypermethrin were not highly effective on fall armyworm at rates labeled for other sweetcorn pests. Tank mixing of fenvalerate with methomyl or chlorpyrifos resulted in control of fall armyworm damage and verified laboratory studies indicating synergism of these mixtures. Several new pyrethroid insecticides showed promise in controlling the fall armyworm in sweetcorn. These were tralomethrin, flucythinate, cyfluthrin, and cyhalothrin [(R + S)-a-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (1S + 1R)-cis-3-(Z-2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluroprop-1-enyl)-2,2-dimethylcy clopropane carboxylate]. /// Durante siete años de pruebas de campo con maíz dulce la aplicación por rocios de methomyl y chlorpyrifos a dos días de intervalos desde la iniciacion de la seda hasta la cosecha, dió un control efectivo del gusano cogollero, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.
