Zahlreiche betriebswirtschaftliche Fragestellungen haben dichotome abhängige Variablen zum Gegenstand, für deren empirische Analyse bisher standardmäßig die Diskriminanz-analyse eingesetzt wird. In diesem Beitrag wird mit der Logistischen Regression ein alternatives Verfahren vorgestellt, daß zunehmend Verbreitung findet. Anhand eines Beispiels wird das Schätzverfahren vorgestellt und gezeigt, wie das gesamte Modell und einzelne Koeffizienten hinsichtlich ihrer statistischen Güte zu beurteilen sind. Danach zeigt der Autor, wie partielle Ableitungen, Elastizitäten und Sensitivitätsanalysen zur Interpretation von Koeffizienten genutzt und Prognosen aufgrund Logistischer Regressionsmodelle aufgestellt werden können.
A substantial body of empirical accounting, finance, management, and marketing research deals with problems with binary dependent variables. The purpose of this paper is to introduce logistic regression as an alternative approach to analyze such problems. After explaining the estimation procedure in logistic regression, the author presents three methods of interpreting the coefficients in logistic regression and how it can be used for predictions. The estimation technique, the goodness-of-fit measures, and the interpretation of coefficients are illustrated with an example. It is shown that logistic regression has both strengths and weaknesses that must be clearly understood.
