Die gängige Trennung zwischen bloß kommentierenden naturphilosophischen und unabhängigen intellekttheoretischen Schriften hat zu einem verzerrten Bild der Philosophie Ibn B???as (gest. 1139) geführt. Die vorliegende Studie zeigt, im Ausgang vom editorisch wesentlich verbesserten Text seines De anima-Kommentars, Kit?b al-nafs, mittels einer durch das gesamte Œuvre hindurchgehenden Analyse des zentralen Begriffs der Potenz bzw. des Vermögens, dass Ibn B???a die Psychologie im Sinne des Aristoteles konsequent als Naturwissenschaft konzipiert, gleichzeit aber zur die Naturerkenntnis abschließenden Fundamentalwissenschaft macht.
The current practice of distinguishing between works of pure commentary on natural philosophy and works of original conceptual scholarship has led to a confused picture of the philosophy of Ibn B???as (d. 1139). The present study relies on a greatly improved re-edited text of his commentary on 0De anima,0 Kit?b al-nafs. In a penetrating analysis of the central concept of potency or capability that runs through the entire work, the author shows that in keeping with the Aristotelian model, Ibn B???a conceptualizes psychology as a natural science, but at the same time, ultimately turns his understanding of natural science into fundamental science.
