Die Vorstellung vom Islam, die der öffentlichen Diskussion zugrunde liegt, entsteht im Diskurs selbst: Der Islam ist für uns dasjenige, als was er im Diskurs erscheint. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht diesen Prozess der Bedeutungskonstitution mit Methoden der lexikalischen Semantik, der Diskursanalyse und der Korpuslinguistik. Die spezifische Kombination der Methoden illustriert aktuelle Möglichkeiten einer text- und diskursorientiert arbeitenden Sprachwissenschaft.
The notions of Islam that are prevalent in the public imagination are founded and shaped by public discourse itself. This study examines the process by which perceptions of Islam are constructed using the methods of lexical semantics, discourse analysis, and corpus linguistics. This specific combination of methods illustrates the unique textual and discursive potentials of contemporary linguistics.
