    Eine der gigantischen Herausforderungen, vor die uns das unaufhaltsame Wachstum der Megastädte stellt, ist die Neugestaltung von Mobilitäts- und Transportkonzepten unter besonderer Berücksichtigung von Energieeffizienz und der Einsparung von CO₂. Dazu haben transdisziplinär arbeitende, internationale Forschungsteams in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Planerinnen und Planern für fünf Städte exemplarische Analysen und Vorschläge erarbeitet. Der zweite Band der Reihe Future Megacities bietet einerseits einen Überblick über weitgehende Lösungs-möglichkeiten wie nachhaltige Transportkonzepte durch intelligentes Management, innovative Instrumente für integrierte Stadt- und Verkehrsplanung, angepasste Verkehrsmodellsysteme, Anpassungsstrategien im Transportsektor oder Konzepte zur Optimierung des Öffentlichen Verkehrs. Andererseits beleuchtet er ebenso Schwierigkeiten wie die der Datenerfassung, sich ändernder Verwaltungen oder der Planung und Modellierung in rasant wachsenden und sich ständig wandelnden Agglomerationen

    While the trend towards the growth of megacities creates huge challenges, it also offers the opportunity for reshaping mobility patterns in cities, promoting energy efficiency and principles of low carbon development. In this volume, an overview is provided of solutions comprising concepts for sustainable transportation through intelligent management, innovative instruments for integrated transport planning, modelling systems, adaptation strategies in the transport sector and concepts for enhancing public transit. Developed for five cities of the programme by transdisciplinary and international research teams in close collaboration with local stakeholders, they are presented on the background of big challenges ranging from data collection issues, modelling and planning in a fast growing environment to resistance of citizens against big infrastructure projects
