Hans Op de Beeck has been working for more than ten years on a series of large, monochrome watercolors that he paints at night. The original works are 2.5 to 5 meters wide and deal with both classical and contemporary themes. They are often poetic scenes of mysterious nocturnal locations, sometimes inhabited by anonymous people. As in his entire oeuvre, the "mood" of the image is paramount. This book, luxuriously executed in large format and in a limited edition of 800 copies, brings together more than sixty night watercolors that have never been published before. Together they form a kind of associative graphic novel. Hans Op de Beeck sculpts, films, paints, draws, photographs, writes and makes monumental installations. His work has been lauded at home and abroad and he has exhibited solo in, among others, the M HKA in Antwerp, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, Museum Wolfsburg and the Smithsonian in Washington. His watercolors are part of various top collections, including those of the Center Pompidou and Museum Voorlinden
Hans Op de Beeck werkt al meer dan tien jaar aan een reeks grote, monochrome aquarellen die hij's nachts schildert.
