  • Description: Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) reshapes the way information is collected, processed, and disseminated, but extant evidence on its effects on a firm's transparency and internal control is mixed. We add to the debate by showing that firms' stock price crash risk decreases following ERP adoption. The negative effect of ERP adoption on crash risk is concentrated in firms whose adoption represents a conscious business decision and firms in more competitive industries, and can be explained by the effects of ERP adoption on improving the quality of internal control and reducing the chance of financial restatements
