This study explores the effects of sex-ratio imbalance on both the quantity and quality of children, as outcomes of intra-household bargaining. We first demonstrate the theoretical model on intra-household bargaining in the presence of conflicting family goals within a couple; we show that an increase (decrease) in the male-female sex ratio induces a decrease (increase) in the number of children, but an increase (decrease) in the quality of children.
