  • Description: The US Department of Transportation is considering whether road safety would be improved through a mandate of a nascent vehicle-to-vehicle communications technology known as dedicated short-range communications (DSRC). DSRC enjoys a wireless frequency allocation that the Federal Communications Commission has proposed to be shared with new access to Wi-Fi, as part of its ongoing efforts to boost broadband access and economic growth. This paper describes how DSRC safety services can be advanced in a manner that also enables robust sharing of wireless spectrum resources, enabling the government to advance the dual objectives of road safety and economic growth
