Description:
Universities in Colombia initially focused on teaching. Some of them, both public and private, have reconsidered their vision and have been trying to develop policies to incorporate research among their priorities. Clear mechanisms of incentives for publications have been designed, with the aim of involving the faculty in the production of knowledge and divulging results through national and international indexed journals, books based on research findings, participation in conferences and academic events. This article aims to highlight the value of contract theory in order to understand the policy of incentives for research in universities, conducting a review of major theoretical contributions to moral hazard problems and discussing policies of incentives for research in the light of these concepts
