  • Description: This paper summarizes ten years of empirical research on the ingredients of sustainable organizational success at different organizational levels. While multiple dimensions of corporate success have received much attention in recent years, few studies had spanned the entire spectrum of structural levels. Our cumulative studies have addressed three distinctive levels – the corporate, the business unit, and the project level. While differences exist among levels, we found a common core across organizations to assess success from the very short to the very long-term. This dynamic framework includes the following dimensions: the short-term financial and efficiency measures, the benefits to the customer measures, the people and human capital management measures, and the long-term measures of investment in the future. Such framework could create a basis for any organization to develop its specific measures across its organizational levels. Of special interest are the role of the human capital and the investment in creating future opportunities. Our findings suggest implications for management on each dimension, and suggestions on how to address the human capital as well as preparing for the future across organizational levels
