  • Description: Within this thesis various aspects of the norbornadiene (NBD) – quadricyclane (QC) interconversion system were investigated. In particular, the application of nanomaterials such as fullerenes and magnetite nanoparticles (NPs) allowed the realization of innovative new concepts. In general, this work can therefore be divided into two main topics, NBD/QC – fullerene hybrids (P1 and P2) and novel magnetic catalysts for the back-reaction of QC to NBD (P3 and P4). Additionally, detailed investigations of the NBD/QC derivatives synthesized during P4 yielded new and fundamental insight into the mechanism of the NBD to QC interconversion (P5).
