  • Description: Based on the idea of constructing a new development model in Morocco, this paper sheds light on the mission of the social and solidarity economy (SSE). Specifically, this study aimed to examine how SSE can reduce territorial inequalities by creating favorable economic dynamics in territories with suboptimal human development. Our study setting was the 75 provinces of Morocco. After drawing a typology of the SSE in these territories, we tested the spatial effect of some indicators, such as the urbanization rate and the female employment rate. Moreover, we examined the impact of SSE on the local human development index through the number of cooperative members. This study found diversity in the participation of the SSE in the regulation of territories. On the one hand, there was a heterogeneous relationship in the Moroccan space. On the other hand, the cooperative model in Morocco was shown to play a pivotal role in the readjustment of social and spatial inequities, targeting territories with suboptimal human development. This study clarifies the importance of territorial equity in spatial planning. Policy makers still need to enhance the application of the SSE as a tool to promote spatial equity in the new development model. The described typologies of SSE in Moroccan provinces may allow for stakeholders to develop a business plan for the implementation of SSE initiatives according to the specific needs of each territory
