  • Description: Using insights from the resource dependence theory and social identity theory, this study investigates whether female representation on board affect firm internationalization. We test our hypotheses using a balanced panel dataset of 753 publicly listed firms in Taiwan, spanning 14 years (2005 to 2018). The results reveal an inverted U-shaped curvilinear relationship between board female representation and firm internationalization. Moreover, this inverted U-shaped curvilinear relationship is stronger for younger firms and more geographically dispersed firms. The findings show board female representation has considerable influence on firm internationalization. The findings highlight the drivers of firm internationalization, stress the importance of board female representation in the context of internationalization, and show the contingent nature of internationalization decision-making in general
