  • Description: This video footage is from a test flight conducted on 9 September 2010 at Jirnsum, Province of Friesland, Netherlands. It was recorded by a GoPro video camera mounted on the swivel head of the ground station, looking along the tether at the kite. The kite power system was equipped with a Mutiny V1 kite of 25 m2 wing surface area and a radio-controlled improvised kite control unit. In this flight the wing collapsed 9:34 min after launch (60 s into this video excerpt), during the reel-in phase, subsequently sinking to the ground, in a spiraling motion. The start of the reel in phase can be recognized by the audible increase of the reeling speed starting at 40 s into this video excerpt. Shortly after the wing collapsed, the reeling of the tether is stopped. The entire decent, from wing collapse until ground impact, took about 40 s. The event was video recorded simultaneously by a GoPro video camera taped to the leading edge tube at the wing tip, looking towards the other wing tip
