  • Description: National accounts figures, like economic growth and government balance, play an important role in economic decision-making and analysis. National accounts statistics have made the size, composition and developement of national economies and their major components. As a consequence, they can be monitored, analysed and used for decision making. Despite this world wide use, national accounts concepts and statistics are often misunderstood and misused. The purpose of this book is to reduce illiteracy in national accunting by clarifying what is measured by official national accounts statistics, what is measured and how it is used and misused. Attention is paid to the history of the national accounts, the current framework (guidelines and compilation practice), the use of the national accounts for various purposes and the future of the national accounts
