  • Description: This paper tries to assess the impact of globalization on the trickle down of benefits from economic growth to the poor. In the specific case study of Indian liberalization of 1991 the reforms led to an improvement in the elasticity of poverty to per capita income in both urban and rural areas but a decline in the efficiency of growth in bringing about poverty alleviation in rural areas That is, poverty alleviation per constant rupee increase in average affluence actually declined in rural areas
