  • Description: After the liberalization of 1991 Indian economic growth has accelerated and touched unprecedented levels. Critics of Indian liberalization argue that this process has bypassed the common man and the gains have been concentrated in a few hands. This paper tries to resolve this debate, which has been played out intensively in the media and the political battlefield, but through an academic appeal to numbers pertaining to human development. Policy implications are also provided
