  • Description: Heavy goods vehicles (HGV) play an important role in the delivery of goods and are essential to our economy. However, because of its physical size and operational characteristics, HGVs pose high risks to other road users. There are numerous road accidents involving HGVs in Malaysia. The accidents usually occur from many different factors, which are required to be identified for the prevention of future HGV accidents. The aim of this study is to assess the demographics of the HGVs’ driver and behavior, HGV condition and performance on the road, surrounding environment and location of the roadway that contribute to accidents involving HGV using a set of questionnaires. This study involves interviews and distributing questionnaire to the HGV driver. Data obtained were analysed and summarised to assess the possible causes of HGV accidents. The findings found several factors contributing to HGV accidents, namely human, vehicle performance, road condition and environment. It is recommended that detailed field investigations be carried out to confirm these findings and that this survey is expanded to other parts of the country
