  • Description: We establish a fundamental real swaption model for mate choice. Typically, we deduce a necessary condition of mate match and an integral equation of one's optimal opportunity of marriage in life. We also find a series of theoretical properties in virtue of the marital swaption model. All these conclusions are helpful to rational single youngsters in making their marital timing decisions. According to the analysis, we propose two Hypotheses and test them with the first marriage data of each province in China from 1980 to 2010. Empirical study shows averagely that city cohort tends to marry later than town individuals, which in turn marry later than countryside people and the timing of first marriage is affected by the wealth level, educational status, resident locations and divorce rate
