  • Description: MetLife Inc. is a leading life insurance company with 90 million customers in more than 50 countries around the globe. They have established a strong presence in these over 50 countries through organic growth, acquisitions, joint ventures and other partnerships. Their 2012 revenue was $68 billion with 64,000 worldwide employees. The company founded in 1863 and is based in New York. In 2006, MetLife was on the verge of committing to acquire Travelers Life and Annuity from Citigroup for more than $11 billion. The IT due-diligence team initially estimated that the time to integrate the two companies’ technology in about 3 years. With some project crunching, they felt they could complete the project in 18 months. MetLife CEO Robert Benmosche, thought for a moment and told CIO Steven Sheinheit, do it by November 1st -- in seven months! (O’ Donnell, 2006)
