  • Description: In Ethiopia, there are suitable ecological and geographical locations for milk production. Nevertheless, the sector is underdeveloped in the country in general and in Adea district in particular. Efforts by milk producer organizations are increasingly low. A sample of 384 dairy producers was assembled to analyze the three-stage process of dairy technology adoption and to illustrate the factors that determine adoption decisions at each stage. The selected sample was analyzed to determine the quantified probability of dairy producer cooperative membership (awareness stage), actual dairy technology adoption, and the number of technologies adopted. Results from the three-stage framework showed that adoption of dairy technologies varied with smallholder access to veterinary services, distance from the cooperative site, off-farm income, and family labor. The three-stage framework accurately corrects for potential sample selection bias
