  • Description: Since the creation and consumption of memes happen to be arguably the single most time-consuming activity on social media, I have examined several Facebook groups belonging to two different timelines of (a) October 2018-April 2019 (b) May 2021 to unearth the trends of the content being shared in these groups, and the happenings ensuing behind these handles that enjoy massive following among the youth population. The paper will begin its analysis by understanding the origin of the meme culture and how the same has gained popularity in India. It will also discuss the impact memes have had on the different spheres of social and political lives of people with special focus on the youth population. A separate section, titled ‘Inside Indian Dank Meme Group: Vulnerability towards Children’ has also been devoted that shares my experiences and insights gained after having joined several closed meme groups to get acquainted with their manner of operation. The same discussion has been carried forward in the next section that explores the way in which Facebook deals with violation of age limit and other community guidelines. In the penultimate section, I have shed light upon international conventions and various domestic laws that protect the interests of minors. In the concluding portion of the paper, I have proposed certain recommendations in order to ensure that community guidelines and other requirements are respected and adhered to by the members so that timely interventions could be made to improve dialogue and interaction on Facebook
