  • Description: Schools can increase students’ cultural capital and funds of knowledge by providing opportunities such as field trips. While research finds benefits, little is known on participant perception of field trips. This study looks inside the “black box” of an experiment to document the field trip experiences of economically disadvantaged urban minoritized youth. I find that stakeholders value field trip experience and exposure. Teachers consider field trips important to educating students. Students make meaning and recall past field trips, indicate that these are formative experiences, and advocate for these experiences for themselves and their peers
