Durante muchos años la concepción acerca del concepto de Estado-Nación siempre estuvo amparado bajo una lectura etnocéntrica. Su punto de entrada en la historia, con la Revolución Francesa, y su primer intento de Estado republicano, dejó claro las intenciones de la nueva clase dirigente de construir una nación. Todo ello implicaba la construcción de una identidad común, pese al desconocimiento de otras identidades étnicas que fueron rápidamente sometidas bajo una cultura oficial y hegemónica. De esta manera, y a lo largo del siglo XIX y XX, se creyó que dicho proceso había sido exitoso. Empero, en las últimas décadas del siglo XX, la aparición de movimientos étnicos que reclaman el derecho a su propia identidad han puesto en cuestionamiento su homogeneidad cultural.
During many years the Nation-State was mustly read from an ethnocentric perspective historically, it started with the French revolution and its firts attemp with the republic state clearly stated the intentions of new emer-gent elites to bring about a nation such process implied the construction of common identity, at the expense of the other ethnic identities the were largely subjected under an official and hegemonic culture. This is why throughout the XIX and XX centuries the Nation-State building project was regarded as a successful one. However, the last decades of the century the emergence of ethnic movements reclaiming their identity rights, have questioned the cultural homogeneity of the Nation-State.
