Heringa/Van Kalsbeek?s sculptures are whimsical, glistening, multicoloured assemblages made from discarded or used up things, objects found washed up on the shore or in rubbish dumps. Nature is a great source of inspiration for the artist duo, and they are fascinated by how natural processes of decay and overgrowth create new forms. Liet Heringa and Maarten Kalsbeek have been working together since 1998, and their output reflects an otherworldly and fantastical realm full of organic palpability and promise. One could even call the creative processes involved in their work ?controlled accidents?.
