  • Description: Canada relies on third party certification of products and materials to manage health and safety issues. Thousands of mandatory standards are embedded in federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and in national safety codes. European manufacturers of products and materials can therefore access Canada's market by engaging CABs that have been accredited by the SCC. These bodies have the required staff, expertise, and facilities to identify relevant mandatory standards and safety codes, perform the required tests and issue relevant certification marks on products and materials sold by wholesalers and retailers. This Report also provides a pathway for manufacturers wishing to commercialise products or materials when no Canadian standard currently exists. This Report is meant to provide an overview of the Canadian standardisation system to European manufacturers of products and materials, who should take advantage of the above-outlined information along with other provisions of the CETA agreement to access the 10th largest economy in the world.
