  • Description: The advanced technique of RF-polarography, developed by BARKER, has been applied to several problems of trace analysis of alloys and pure metals. The methode makes use of the effect of faradaic rectification caused by the nonlinear behaviour of electrode processes; thus a considerable gain in sensitivity is achieved compared with other polarographic techniques. Problems connected with currents by charge density alterations of the double-layer capacity virtually disappear. Also there is a pronounced increase in sensitivity for multi-electron electrode reactions. The type and the shape of the RF-curves is strongly dependent on the kinetic parameters of the electrode process and on the specific adsorption of the depolariser, and satisfactory resolution in multicomponent systems may be achieved by proper selection of the experimental conditions (e.g. supporting electrolyte, frequency etc.).
