Pilze sind im Meere häufig. Im Nordatlantik wurden sie z. B. an allen seinen Küsten und auch in seiner Tiefe, und zwar vom Ozeanboden bis an die Oberfläche, gefunden. Regelmäßige Erträge lieferten die Proben vom Grunde, des Trübungswassers und des Planktons. Die allgemeine Verbreitung, die Relation zwischen Besiedlungsdichte und Nahrungsangebot nach Art und Menge und die speziellen chemischen Aktivitäten einiger Pilzgruppen (als Vitaminerzeuger, als Partner in symbioseähnlichen Gemeinschaften mit Pflanzen und Tieren, als Parasiten u. a.) geben klare Hinweise auf die große Bedeutung der Pilze im Haushalt der Stoffe im Meere. Fungi are frequent under marine conditions. During the last years they were found in the Northern Atlantik at all its coasts and in its depth also, from the oceanfloor up to the surface. High yields resulted from samples of the soil, the turbidity-water and the plancton. By the general distribution, the abundance in relation to the kind and the amount of food and the chemical activities of certain groups (as vitamin-producers, as partner of symbiosis-like communities, as parasites etc.) is demonstrated, that the fungi play an important role in the metabolism of matters in the sea.
