<jats:p>The information on the magnitude of the orbital contribution χorb to the magnetic susceptibilities of the transition metals which may be deduced from experimental data is briefly reviewed. Results of a calculation of χorb as a function of Fermi energy are given for electrons in (i) an fcc d band based on the tight-binding calculation of Fletcher and (ii) an interpolated bcc d band obtained from Wood's APW calculation for iron.</jats:p>
