The optimization of a heterogeneously catalyzed gas‐phase reaction by PE spectroscopy is demonstrated for the production of F3CBr, an extinguishing agent used in automatic fire extinguishing installations. A specially developed (PE spectroscopic) gas‐analysis technique permits screening of catalysts (and conditions). The best results were obtained with FeCl3/KBr/activated charcoal. equation image
