Description:
ABSTRACTA clearly structured argumentation is presented why considering the recycling potential in life cycle analysis of steel structures is the correct choice. The both prevailing production routes of structural steel, electric arc furnace and blast furnace are looked at as well as end‐of‐life collection scenarios including re‐use or recycling rates. The value of structural steel is differentiated between material value and product value when a product, e.g. a steel beam is rolled out of the steel material. With this the fair evaluation is made based on cradle to gate versus considering additionally the end‐of life scenarios of recycling and reuse. Shortcomings and merits of the methods are pointed out.
