  • Description:
Abstract
Predetermination of fluid‐dynamic properties of sieve‐plate extraction columns without pulsation. A sieve‐plate extraction column can be constructed without problems. Its special advantages are high throughputs of phases and a relatively high degree of plate efficiency. The throughputs of the liquid phases, running to each other in counterflow, can be varied within certain limits without loss in efficiency of mass transfer. The operating area of a sieve‐plate extraction column is limited by the flood head, the minimum load for steady streaming through the sieve plate, the maximum and the minimum height of layer of disperse phase. The significant limiting quantities for predicting the load limitations are the volumetric flows of both phases, the relative fractional free sieve‐plate area, the orifice diameter, the differential density and the interfacial tension. Their influence on the operating area of a sieve‐plate extraction column is described by means of load diagrams.
