<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The use of ceramic materials in chemical engineering is on the increase. They have a number of advantageous properties which prove technically and economically beneficial. Realization of these benefits requires cooperation between component manufacturers and users, with due attention to appropriate design. Example of successful use are discussed.</jats:p>
