<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>This article deals with the relationship between conflict and education. The author examines that linkage in both causal directions. A particular paradigm dominant in educational and policy systems, <jats:italic>Realpolitik,</jats:italic> tends to be reinforced by conflict; an alternative paradigm, <jats:italic>Idealpolitik,</jats:italic> tends to facilitate and strengthen development of a peace and conflict studies culture.</jats:p>
