  • Description:
Abstract
In this paper, a new reflection‐type microwave imaging method is proposed to compute inverse scattering in the spatial domain by means of an approximate inverse integral transform. Its effectiveness is demonstrated by simulation and experiment. Since the transmitting antenna and the receiving antenna are placed in close proximity in the reflection‐type configuration, the coupling between the transmitting and receiving antennas cannot be neglected. Also, if the operating bandwidth is increased in order to enhance the range resolution, the frequency dependence of the antenna becomes a problem. In order to resolve these problems, a new preprocessing method is proposed in which the effect of the antenna system is calibrated. Considering the wavelength and the object size, excellent reconstructed images can be obtained experimentally. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
