  • Description: <jats:p><jats:bold>Bacteriochlorophyll a<jats:sub>Gg</jats:sub> and Bacteriopheophytin a<jats:sub>p</jats:sub> in Photosynthetic Reaction Centers from <jats:italic>Rhodospirillum rubrum G‐9</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup></jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>In photosynthetically active reaction centers from <jats:italic>Rhodospirillum rubrum G‐9</jats:italic><jats:sup>+</jats:sup>, the magnesium complex bacteriochlorophyll a contains geranylgeraniol as the alcohol component, while the metal‐free bacteriopheophytin a contains phytol instead. These pigments bacteriochlorophyll a<jats:sub>Gg</jats:sub> (<jats:bold>4</jats:bold>) and bacteriopheophytin a<jats:sub>P</jats:sub> (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold>) were isolated from reaction center preparations in a ratio of 2:1 and (after demetallation of <jats:bold>4</jats:bold>) identified as bacteriopheophytin a<jats:sub>Gg</jats:sub> (<jats:bold>2</jats:bold>), and a<jats:sub>P</jats:sub> (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold>) by comparison with authentic samples (UV./VIS., CD. and mass spectra as well as mixed HPLC.).</jats:p>
