  • Description: <jats:p><jats:bold>On the Stereochemistry of the C(8)‐Alkylation of 7‐Oxo‐13,17‐secosteroids</jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>It is shown that the title compounds, <jats:italic>e.g.</jats:italic> <jats:bold>10</jats:bold>, can be alkylated with methyl iodide under strongly basic conditions to afford 8α‐methylated products, <jats:italic>e.g.</jats:italic> <jats:bold>11</jats:bold> <jats:italic>(Scheme 1)</jats:italic>. The configuration was assigned by <jats:sup>13</jats:sup>C‐NMR.‐spectroscopy, CD. measurements, and finally proved by a X‐ray crystallographic structure analysis.</jats:p>
