<jats:p><jats:bold>Regiospecific Synthesis of (Polyhydroxypropyl)‐pterins: Synthesis of <jats:sc>D</jats:sc>‐Anapterin and <jats:sc>L</jats:sc>‐Primapterin</jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>Condensation of 2,5,6‐triaminopyrimidin‐4‐one(<jats:bold>5</jats:bold>) with the semicarbazone of pentoses proceeds regiospecifically with formation of 7‐(polyhydroxypropyl)pterins. <jats:sc>D</jats:sc>‐Anapterin (=7‐(<jats:sc>D</jats:sc>‐erythro‐1′,2′,3′‐trihydroxypropyl)pterin; <jats:sc>D</jats:sc>‐<jats:bold>3</jats:bold>) was obtained in 40% yield, and <jats:sc>L</jats:sc>‐primapterin (=7‐(<jats:sc>L</jats:sc>‐erythro‐1′,2′‐dihydroxypropyl)pterin; <jats:sc>L</jats:sc>‐<jats:bold>4</jats:bold>)in 10% yield.</jats:p>
