  • Description: <jats:p><jats:bold>Formylimine versus Isocyanate — an Unusual Tautomerism of a Trifluoroalanine Derivative</jats:bold></jats:p><jats:p>The intermediate <jats:bold>7a</jats:bold> formed by hydrogen chloride elimination of <jats:bold>6</jats:bold> can easily tautomerize to the isolable isocyanate <jats:bold>7b</jats:bold>. Depending on the reaction conditions nucleophiles react with <jats:bold>7a</jats:bold> and <jats:bold>7b</jats:bold> to give the corresponding products <jats:bold>8</jats:bold> or <jats:bold>9</jats:bold>, respectively.</jats:p>
