  • Description: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The effect of an applied electric field on the emission bands of thallium centers is observed in KBr and KI. The results show a field quenching of the luminescence excited in the C and D absorption bands. From the temperature and field dependence of the relative luminescence change is established that the effect is due to a'decrease of the radiative quantum yield due to a field assisted tunneling of the electron from the excited level toward a nearby trap.</jats:p>
