<jats:p>What does ‘hypothekarische Sukzession’ mean? One pledgee is replaced by another, who paid the sum owed by the debtor. The Roman sources use the word <jats:italic>succedere</jats:italic>. But the cases are different. Not all of them should be spoken of as ‘hypothekarische Sukzession’. </jats:p>
