  • Description: The introduction of the ‘literacy hour’ into primary schools is causing concern because it is largely unresearched. Maggie Moore and Barrie Wade suggest that in the pursuit of better standards of reading a substantial body of evidence for other solutions, principally Reading Recovery, are being ignored. They detail some of the very positive results they have obtained from the Marie Clay programme in Australia and New Zealand. The government should, perhaps look more closely at existing well‐documented projects before embarking on a massive policy that may have little effect.
