<jats:italic>Clostridium nigrificans</jats:italic>
and unlike
<jats:italic>Desulfovibrio</jats:italic>
species. It is not thermophilic and does not acquire the thermophilic habit; it is thus the first naturally occurring mesophilic member of this group to be described.
