  • Description: Few practices make 'continuing professional development' compulsory either for recent graduates or old hands. However, the latest RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct states: 'It is important for veterinarians to keep up to date with general developments in veterinary science, especially in the sectors in which they are practising. To that end they are strongly advised to participate in formal programmes of CPD throughout their careers.' In this article Philip Goddard considers some of the benefits of CPD to individuals, practices and clients, as well as some possible drawbacks.
